Scalp and face massage at The Disability Foundation

How Scalp and Face Massage works

A half hour treatment to the shoulders, neck, face and scalp. Benefits include: relaxation of the whole body as many people hold tension in these areas due to stress, tension and long term poor posture. For example: the many muscles that animate the face benefit from stroking and gentle palpating, relieving tension in the forehead and stimulating blood and lymph circulation which in turn rejuvenates the skin, cleanses toxins and reduces puffiness; oil used also moisturises dry skin. The scalp is covered in numerous nerve endings and has a layer of muscle surrounding it, which is used when facial expressions are activated and so can hold lots of tension. Massage of the scalp relieves this tension held in the head. It also increases circulation, which can boost hair growth and condition. As for the neck, all the nerves which sensitise the head and arms flow from the top 7 spinal vertebrae, making treatment to the area essential for relief of shoulder, arm and head pain by loosening the muscles to increase mobility. Clients are only required to lie in one position, reclining throughout and ultimate care is taken to keep the client comfortable with cushions to support knees, back and head where needed.
