Aromatherapy massage at The Disability Foundation

Essential plant oils are extracts from the flowers, leaves, fruits, seeds and bark of certain plants and trees, usually by steam distillation. Each essence has a different property and effect. Understanding their effects is a crucial part of an aromatherapist's training. Oils are blended with a carrier oil to create a mixture, which can be used directly on the body. The blend will depend on an individual's needs and condition. Oils have different effects on the body, mind and spirit. Some are sedative or stimulating, some have an analgesic and antispasmodic effect, most are anti-bacterial.

Why choose aromatherapy?

Aromatherapy is particularly useful for stress related problems such as insomnia and migraines, digestive problems, muscular problems, menstrual problems, some skin conditions such as eczema and acne, asthma, sinusitis and hay fever, cystitis. Aromatherapy practitioners believe that by combining healing essential oils with massage, an individual can have a more powerful treatment than by using each separately.

Aromatherapy can be enjoyed as frequently as 3 times a week.

When is it not safe to have aromatherapy massage?

If you have had osteopathy, reflexology or acupuncture that day or have been inoculated, vaccinated or donated blood.
